In Memoriam, remembering our club golfers who have left us.
1985 – Tom Stead – On August 22nd, forty year old Exxon Club golfer Tom Stead who had 6 tournament wins including the 1980 Pyramid Tournament and the 1981 Exxon Cup passed away while playing golf at Ancil Hoffman G.C. in Sacramento.
1990 – Don Dean -Exxon Club golfer Don Dean who won 12 tournaments including the 1981 Winners Tournament, the 1982 Pyramid Tournament and was the 1981 Player of the Year passed away in March.
1994 – Ray Turner – Exxon Club Golfer Ray Turner who won 5 tournaments including back to back Exxon Cups at Green Valley CC and Fountaingrove GC in 1985 and 1986 and was the 1986 Player of the Year passed away early in the year.
1994 – Scotty Coffin – Exxon Club golfer Scotty Coffin who won 7 tournaments including the 1982 and 1984 Winners Tournaments passed away in December.
1999 – Boyd Cook – Exxon Club golfer Boyd Cook who won 22 tournaments including the 1980 and 1986 Winners Tournaments and the 1985 Pyramid Tournament passed away in August. see Boyd’s profile
2001 – Chet Northway – Chet played with the club for many years mainly in the scramble tournaments, however he did team up with John Hickey to finish 2nd in the 1984 Best-Ball Tournament at Green Tree and also played in the 1992 Pyramid Tournament. Chet passed away in May of this year.
2002 – Harvey Gong – Harvey who played with the golf club from 1975 until 1980 passed away in February of this year.
2006 – Jim Murphy – Former club golfer Jim Murphy passed away in September, not too serious about his game Jim was out for fun and laughs. “Murph” had a great laugh, was a good guy and will be missed.
2009 – Sal Salinas – Former club golfer Sal Salinas who won the 1993 Paradise Valley tournament passed away in September.
2009 – Jay Jordan – Former club golfer Jay Jordan who had back to back wins @ Chimney Rock GC in 1972 & 1973 and was the subject of a couple of golf stories on this website passed away in February.
2009 – Al Trujillo – Former Exxon Club Golfer Al Trujillo who won the 1983 Tilden tournament and the 1985 Kennedy and Lone Tree tournaments passed away in June.
2009 – Clar Reyes – Exxon Club golfer Clar Reyes who won 14 tournaments from 1978 – 1985 including 3 Winners Tournaments, one Pyramid Tournament and one Exxon Cup passed away in September.
2012 – Jim Grant – Exxon Club golfer Jim Grant, a long time player with the club with 3 tournament wins, was runner-up in the 1989 Pyramid Tournament and the 1995 Winners Tournament and held the low net course record @ Foxtail – south passed away in April.
2012 – Gary Villeneuve – A 10 to 12 handicap player with a very nice swing, Gary won the 1993 Delta View Tournament, was runner-up for the most improved handicap for the year, finished 4th for Player of the Year and finished 5th in the Pyramid Tournament. In 1995 he won the Chimney Rock Best-Ball tournament with his partner Nemon Williamson and finished 6th in the Pyramid Tournament. Gary passed away in December
2016 – Brian Cook – Brian had a slow deliberate well connected swing just like his Hall of Fame father Boyd. His two best years were 1997 & 1998. In 1997 he had 2 tournament wins, was the Scoring Average Champion, most improved player and finished 6th for player of the year. In 1998 he again had 2 tournament wins, finished 3rd in tournament points and 4th for player of the year. Brian shot the third lowest net score in club history, a 15 under 57 at Bethel Island GC in 1997. He played in the Pyramid Tournament in 1996, 98, 99 & 2000 with three match wins. Brian passed away in April of this year.
