ROBERT SIMONSON OBITUARY

Robert (Bob) James Simonson passed away unexpectedly in his home Thursday, September 22, 2022. He was 76.
Bob was born December 29, 1945, in Massillon, Ohio to Caroline and Wilmer Simonson. After graduating high school in Massillon, he went on to serve in the United States Navy. After four years in the Navy, Bob went to work in the oil industry at Exxon (now Valero) here in Benicia. Bob retired from Valero after 39 years and called Benicia his home over 54 years.
Bob married the love of his life, Marla, on January 11, 1992. They were best friends and did everything together. Family was the most important thing in Bob’s life always, cherishing time together.
Bob was an avid golfer and looked forward to golfing with his buddies on Wednesdays at Rancho Solano, and any other day in between. He also was an avid walker, seen by many walking up and down First Street daily, sometimes twice a day. He saw many old friends on his walks and met many new friends as well. Bob loved cheering for the San Jose Sharks and enjoyed attending many games with family.
Bob is survived by his wonderful wife, Marla; his children Cheryl (Cal) and Rick (Chris), Marla’s children Tony (Teresa), Gena (Jimmy), and Nicky; his grandchildren Jordan (Gary), Jason (Natalie), Madeline (Nick), Elise, Jacob, Matthew, Katie, Tyler, and Zachary; his great grandchildren Aiden, Jayden, Landon and Liam; his siblings Joanie (Don), Don, and Jayne (Gary); his sister-in-law Robbie. He was preceded in death by his brother Tom and sister-in-law Dawn. Bob also leaves many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Bob will be especially remembered for his calm demeanor, friendly presence, and generosity. He brings a smile and fond memory to all who knew him.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in memory of Bob to Wounded Warrior ProjectAmerican Heart Association, or a favorite charity of your own.
