The weather was unusually cool with the temperature in the seventies and a fairly strong westerly wind. A good field of 25 players were vying for the biggest prize money of the year, $300.00 provided by Kevin Peck and Rob Yarbrough who sponsored the tournament. Rob thought as long as he was putting up part of the prize money he should keep some for himself so he won 1st place in the second flight. The weather was good starting out, warm with slight breeze that fell off by the end of play and allowed the temperature to rise to the mid nineties. We had 32 players sign up for the tournament. Scoring was the name of the game with 15 birdies for the field, if you weren’t scoring low you’d better get out of the way. Bob Simonson set the initial low net course record with a net 63 and won the second flight. Darwin Richey with a 64 was close behind and finished second. A log jam of players tied for third place with 69’s, Steve Blotzer, Sandie Cook, Debbie Menzel, Mike Osada and Rob Yarbrough who also had a LD. Frank Lewin who had won a “million tees” in the Matt hurst shootout raffle gave out bags of tees to each player in the tournament. In second round round pyramid play it was Steve Blotzer over Rollin Podwys and Larry Campbell tying Rod Robinson. In third round play it was Rob Yarbrough over Steve Blotzer. Dave Pearce shot a gross 39 on the back nine including 2 birdies, Mike Cook shot a 39 on the front nine with one birdie, Neal Stachowicz also had one birdie. An 18 hole playoff was played to determine the winner. The playoff was held at Rancho Solano G.C. on November 1st starting at 8am. The temperature was 40 degrees on the first tee but Matt Hurst got off to a warm start shooting a gross 39 on the front nine which gave him a 3 stroke lead over Dave Pearce and a 9 stroke lead over Neal Stachowicz. On the back nine Matt made it through amen corner in 4 over par, finishing the rest of the back nine in 3 over par to win his third consecutive Valero Cup tournament. Larry Campbell hit his tee shot on the par 5 first hole into the lateral water hazard but mangaged to make a par 5. His tee shot on the second hole hit a tree, he hit a long fairway wood into the greenside bunker and got it up and down for a par 4. This set the tempo for the day although it was still close after nine holes of play. Rob Yarbrough who birdied the first hole had a one stroke lead over Larry and a 6 stroke lead over Darwin Richey. Larry made three straight pars to open the back nine, took the lead and never relinquished it.      The 9th annual Revenge at Kennedy Scramble Tournament was played on a beautiful fall day on October 25th with the temperature in the low nineties by the time we finished. Shooting a 10 under par score of 62 the team of  Ken Dorsey, Jake Finnegan, Rod Robinson and Nemon Williamson won the revenge tournament for the fourth time. Finishing in second place was the team of  Larry Campbell, Mike and Sandie Cook and Dan Kilkenny. Shots of the day went to Scott Goldsmith who holed out his second shot on the par 4 eleventh hole for an eagle two and Brittany Hurst who’s tee shot was used on the par 3 sixteenth hole, she then holed out the putt for a birdie two. It was a good way to end the golf year, everyone had fun, and all the teams shot good scores, the last place teams were still 4 under par.
