Due to bad weather ( El Nino ) and scheduling conflicts our 21st Pyramid Tournament finals were played in late March, 1998 at Green Valley C.C. John Justus ( $90.00 ) won the tournament with Nemon Williamson ( $46.00 ) finishing second and Phil Kruger ( $28.00 ) taking third place. El Nino also prevented our playing the Exxon Cup Tournament in 1997. It was rescheduled for May 30th, 1998 to make sure we had good weather and we did even though it rained for two solid days prior to the tournament. Green Valley C.C. was again the host for the 11th Exxon Cup which was won by Nemon Williamson. Sandie Cook took second place with Neal Stachowicz finishing third. Other players included; Mike Cook, John Ortiz, Brian Cook, Boyd Cook, and Dan Riley. ( not eligible but played, John Justus and Steve Blotzer )
After finishing first in Tournament Points, fifth in Tournament Scoring Average and fifth in the Pyramid Tournament, Mike Cook was the 1997 “Player of the Year”.
1997 was a very good year for the Exxon Golf Club, we had the second highest number of players per tournament and many good golf courses to play, thanks to Rob Yarbrough for doing a great job as Tournament Director.
