The 1977 golf season started at Kennedy G.C. on April 17th. Two flights were used with first and second place finishers eligible for the Winners Tournament. Bob Simonson won the first flight and the closest to the pin. John Ortiz was second. In the second flight, Bob Young took first place with Floyd Duggins and Dan Tiburcio tying for second. Gary Beckman won the long drive.
The second tournament was played on May 15th at Indian Valley G.C. Dave Pearce won the first flight with Mike Cook second and Denzil Storbeck and Bob Simonson tying for third. In the second flight it was Dan Tiburcio first ( with a net 61 ), Bob Young second and Jim Spurgeon third. Closest to the pin winner is unknown, Mike Cook won the long drive.
Tilden G.C. was the site of the third tournament of the year, it was played on June 19th. John Ortiz won the one flight tournament, with Denzil Storbeck second and Dave Pearce third. Darwin Richey won the closest to the pin, Denzil Storbeck the long drive.
July 16th was the date of the fourth tournament played at Sonoma National G.C. Denzil Storbeck won the first flight with Dave Pearce second. Winning the second flight was Jim Spurgeon. Jim Grant took second place and the closest to the pin. Joe Luna won the long drive.
Blue Rock Springs G.C. was played on August 13th. Mike Cook and Dave Pearce tied for first place in the first flight. Scotty Coffin was second. In the second flight, John Ortiz took first place and the closest to the pin. Carl Bradow took second and also won the long drive.
The last chance to qualify for the Winners Tournament was the sixth tournament of the year held at Green Tree G.C. on September 18th. Harland Stuart and Phil Eubanks took the last qualifying spots by finishing first and second in the second flight. Floyd Duggins took third. Carl Bradow won the first flight ( with a net 59 ) with John Ortiz second and Dave Pearce third. The closest to the pin and long drive winners are unknown.
The seventh annual Winners Tournament was held at Franklin Canyon G.C. on October 22nd. Bob Simonson won the tournament with Harland Stuart second and Mike Cook third. Joe Luna won the closest to the pin and John Ortiz the long drive.
The second Pyramid Tournament was a 16 player double elimination tournament. Mike Cook lost in the first round to Joe Luna but went on to win five matches and win the losers bracket. John Ortiz won the winners bracket over Rollin Podwys. Mike Cook won over Rollin to face John in the finals but needed to win twice to take the title. John won the first match and was the Pyramid Champion for 1977.
