The 1976 Exxon Golf season again had only one flight per tournament with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers eligible for the Winners Tournament.
The golf season started at Kennedy G.C. on April 11th, Dave Pearce, Howard Nitzkowski and Darwin Richey finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Darwin also won the long drive ( possibly the first long drive ? ) and Gary Beckman won the closest to the pin.
May 16th was the date of our second tournament held at old Chimney Rock G.C. 1st, 2nd and 3rd places were won by Paul Del Ross, Gary Beckman and Floyd Duggins. Dan Tiburcio won the long drive with John Oliviera winning the closest to the pin.
Joe Luna won the June 19th tournament at Sonoma National G.C. John Parker ( with a gross 78 ) and Darwin Richey tied for second with Mike Cook third. Dave Pearce won the long drive, Jerry Lindquist the closest to the pin.
Diablo Creek was played on July 11th with Ron Kempka winning. B. Winslow finished second and won the long drive. Scotty Coffin took third place and won the closest to the pin.
At the August 14th tournament at Green Tree G.C. Denzil Storbeck and Howard Nitzkowski tied for first place. Howard also won the closest to the pin, Darwin Richey won second with the trio of Rollin Podwys, Harland Stuart and Scotty Coffin taking third place. Joe Luna won the long drive.
The first and third place winners at the September 26th tournament at Tilden G.C. are unknown. Jim Aton won second place. The LD and CP winners are also unknown.
The sixth annual Winners Tournament was held at Franklin Canyon G.C. on October 24th. Harland Stuart won the tournament with Darwin Richey second and Denzil Storbeck third. Gary Beckman won the long drive, Bob Simonson took the closest to the pin.
The first Pyramid Tournament was held with Rollin Podwys winning over Dan Tiburcio in the finals. All records of the tournament were lost. It was probably a 16 player field, Mike Cook lost to Jim McDonald in the first round in match play, an option for that initial pyramid. Other players were probably John Ortiz, Dave Pearce, Bob Simonson, Denzil Storbeck, Jim Spurgeon, Joe Luna, Darwin Richey, Jim Grant, Floyd Duggins, Ron Kempka, Jim Aton and George McCloskey ????
